Radio control model planes make an interesting pastime for a lot of people. These small airplanes are able to do verycomplex maneuvers in the air, similar to their full-sized brethren. Many of these airplanes can be flown at home or at the park.
Remote controlled aircraft come in a whole variety of styles. Most of them are modeled on the design of large planes. In recent years new types of radio controlled airplanes have been produced to mimic jet fighters. Some are light while others heavier – with heavier models generally requiring more technique to fly them safely.
Though more tiny than their full-sized counterparts, radio control planes can perform many of the functions of their big brothers. They are remotely controlled by an FM radio unit and are bought with instructions on how best to fly them.
It is actually very easy to fly radio control model airplanes. You can learn tips from clubs, periodicals and books. One place to begin learning to fly model airplanes is through the Academy of Model Aeronautics (or AMA). They can provide you with numerous tutorials on how to fly various types of remote controlled planes. They also have tutorials for far more advanced flying techniques, such as the maneuvers that will blow away your friends, and bring more excitement to your hobby. The AMA also publishes a monthly periodical to help you keep abreast of the latest RC plane information. Another large benefit from membership with the AMA is that you are offered liability insurance with your subscription, along with updates on remote control aircraft events throughout your home state.
If you would like to learn more about flying RC model aircraft by yourself, you’ll first need to get acquainted with the different parts of the aircraft.
The fuselage is the main body of the aircraft. It is the part to which everything else attaches. The wings provide the lift that the aircraft needs to fly. They could be found at the sides of the aircraft. The elevators control the elevation or altitude. By manipulating them you can make the aircraft go up or down. The ailerons will cause the plane to roll over. They are located on both wings. The rudder will control direction of the plane depending on the direction in which they are pulled.
You should also know that there are four types of forces that act on the radio controlled model plane – the lift that keeps the aircraft afloat, gravity that pulls it back to earth, thrust that pushes it ahead, and drag that reduces the velocity of the plane.

As a newbie, it is also advisable to start with electric engine aircraft. They very easy to pilot, and all you need to do is to charge the radio and aircraft for a flight. Once they are discharged you simply recharge the batteries for another flight. If you are intent on flying your plane in a smaller place you should consider ‘mini’ versions – these are very tiny and can easily take off and land in smaller areas. These same ones can also be flown at very low altitudes and are very suited for enclosed places.
